Andrea Mckenzie
Andrea has over 25 years of experience working with people grappling with a variety of issues and challenges and/or seeking to improve their lives. She knows that it can be difficult to reach out for therapy, and that each person has strengths and stories beyond any challenges they are facing. She brings a warm and caring presence, with a twist of humour into therapy that clients have expressed makes them feel comfortable and understood, and able to share whatever they want or need to. She has a genuine appreciation for client’s experiences and willingness to reflect on themselves in therapy.
Approach: While working primarily from a narrative perspective, Andrea incorporates aspects of other approaches to best meet client needs, including but not limited to solution-focused and cognitive behavioral, within an attachment-based and trauma informed model. She works with people to express their story, consider the problem story’s effects on their life and relationships, and to open up space for strengthening what is currently working, while developing new ways about thinking about or responding to the problem(s). This results in reducing feelings of distress the problems may be creating and ultimately allows one to feel better and live the life they prefer for themselves.
